Vacuum Tube Buffer
The Purity Harmony has been retired in favor of the new Harmony Buffer Line.
The Harmony is quite possibly the worlds first audiophile grade buffer stage. The Harmony is the first balanced vacuum tube buffer that is designed to a level that is at home in even the most high end systems. It is designed as a stand-alone, low output impedance tube stage providing less than 1dB of additional gain. Due to this minimal amount of gain, the Harmony is not classified as "Unity Gain". Originally designed to be used between preamplifier and amplifier, the Harmony will enhance any line level device.
Install the Harmony to the outputs of any DAC, CD/DVD Player, Phono Stage or preamplifier both solid state or tube.
Two versions of the Harmony are available. First there is a stereo unit for use with sources and/or stereo amplifiers. For those wanting the benefits of a full dual mono design, we offer the Harmony in a mono bloc configuration as shown at right. Just like mono bloc amplifiers, the mono bloc Harmony shares nothing between channels. This means each channels has it's own, dedicated power supply providing double the filter capacitance as compared to the stereo unit. The mono bloc design is highly recommended when using the Harmony between your preamplifier and amplifier(s) or any application when the best possible sound is desired.
The Harmony is equipped with full transformer coupling at both it's balanced and single ended inputs and outputs. Single ended (RCA) inputs and outputs both benefit from transformer coupling providing a high input impedance and very low output impedance that can be connected to any downstream component.
Inside the Harmony's chassis you will find that Purity Audio Design continues it's tradition of using only the best parts including first rate input and output balanced transformers, V-Cap TFTF and Clarity ESA capacitors. Like our other products, you will not find a circuit board in sight. Both the power supply and analog circuit utilize 100% point to point wiring.
Like all Purity Audio Design products, the Harmony utilizes a hearty power supply. Starting with the high current toroidal transformer to the fully regulated DC filament supplies for the tubes (in the mono bloc version), the Harmony's power supply is designed to perform. The main B+ and filament supplies are each powered by separate secondary windings off the transformer. Purity Audio Design is known for providing some of the quietest components available. The Harmony has an extremely low noise floor resulting in a jet black background.
The Harmony is the perfect link between any preamplifier and Class D type amplifiers. Most Class D and Ice based amplifiers have excessively low input impedances often below 8k ohms. This low impedance creates havoc for many preamplifiers. The Harmony provides a friendly link to these amplifiers with low input impedances.
Placing the Harmony after any high quality CD player or DAC, tube or solid state, brings a sense of smoothness and emotion without sacrificing any of the quality traits one would come to expect from a high end audio product.
The Harmony can transform your dry, fatiguing home theater into a system your guest will think is driven by tubes. One thing the Harmony cannot do is transform inferior components into giant killers. The Harmony can only enhance and bring forth more of the potential your system has to offer.
The Harmony is also available with dual mono volume attenuators and a switch allowing you to connect two sources, one XLR and one RCA. High quality dual mono stepped attenuators are used to maintain sonic purity. RCA to XLR adapters will also be available for those who have two single ended only sources.
As can be seen in the photos, the Harmony's tubes protrude from the front panel of the unit rather than from the top or internally making placement more versatile while also allowing for tube rolling ease.
The Chassis is constructed of 1/4" acrylic throughout with silver filled laser engraved front and rear panels. Acrylic cones are located under the chassis in an adjustable 4 point configuration.
Installing the Harmony into any system is as easy as installing a preamplifier. Choose you input connection, either XLR or RCA (not both) and your output connection type. Both sets of connection for each the input and output are paralleled together and active at all times. There is no switching between the two.
The sonic results are as follows:
